Pedestrian Struck In South Lafourche Area

February 6, 2008

On February 6, 2008 at approximately 9:25 am, a truck struck and killed a pedestrian on LA 1 in Galliano in Lafourche Parish.

A 1994 Ford F150, driven by Christopher Cheramie, 35, of Galliano, was traveling north on LA 1 in Galliano when for an unknown reason a pedestrian, Perry L. Walker Sr., 57, of Cut Off, LA, ran from the southbound shoulder of LA 1 to the north lane of LA 1 and was struck by the Ford F150. Walker was transported to Lady of the Sea Hospital in Galliano where he died of the injuries he sustained in the crash. No one was injured in the Ford F150.

Alcohol use is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. Cheramie was given a breath test and he blew a .000g% indicating that he was not impaired. Toxicology results from Walker are pending from the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office.

Shortly into the investigation, troopers learned that the person who initially said she was driving, Mary Borne, was actually a passenger in the truck. The driver, Christopher Cheramie, did eventually admit he was driving the truck at the time of the crash. Cheramie was charged with Obstruction of Justice, No Drivers License on Person, and Failure to Register a Vehicle. The two passengers (Mary Borne, 21, and Patricia Hebert, 38, both of Galliano) were charged with Interfering with the Duties of a State Trooper.
