For Immediate Release Troop C Troopers Will Continue Strict Enforcement Even Though Mardi Gras 2008 is Over February 7, 2008 At the start of Carnival Season 2008, Louisiana State Police Troop C reminded motorist to use caution when traveling in an attempt to make our roadways safer. During this Carnival Season, which lasted just about two weeks, the following violations were cited: 47 DWI arrests 668 speeding citations 142 seatbelt citations 13 citations for no child restraints 6 littering violations 37 insurance violations 11 narcotics arrests 22 failure to yield 9 following to close 85 ignored traffic controls 56 careless operation Crashes throughout Carnival Season: 1 fatality accident resulting in one fatality 40 injury accidents resulting in 75 people injured 112 property damage accidents Commander, Louisiana State Police Troop C Captain Val Penouilh stated, “Unfortunately one life was lost in a crash this Carnival Season and we would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family of the crash victim. Although the Carnival Season is over, Troop C troopers will continue to take strict enforcement against impaired and hazardous driving in order to make our roadways safer for all in the Troop C area.” Please remember to dial *LSP (*577) anytime you witness any type of hazardous driving on our roadways.
