For Immediate Release Bayou Cane Fire Department Rescue Truck Crashes into Taxi Cab; One Dead February 15, 2008 On February 15, 2008 at approximately 6:43 pm, a Bayou Cane Fire Department Rescue truck struck a Tommy’s Taxi Cab vehicle killing the driver of the taxi. The crash occurred on LA 3040 near Hollywood Road in Houma, LA. A 1998 Dodge Bayou Cane Fire Rescue truck being driven by Cody Hebert, 23, of Pierre Part, LA, was northbound on LA 3040 (Tunnel Blvd.) in the inside lane. Hebert did have on the vehicle’s overhead red emergency lights and sirens en route to a call. Hebert attempted to switch lanes to the outside lane and lost control. His truck left the road to the right and struck a 1999 Ford Taurus (Tommy’s Cab) on the driver’s side. The taxi was stopped in the private driveway of the Quick Zone gas station waiting to enter traffic on LA 3040. The Ford Taurus was being driven by Percy Malbrough, 55, of Houma, LA. Cody Hebert was not injured as a result of the crash. Percy Malbrough died from his injuries sustained in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. The only passenger in the Bayou Cane Fire Truck, Adam Schmitt, 21, of Houma, LA, was not injured in the crash. There was a patron who was just picked up by Tommy’s Cab, Sheila Henry, 34, of Houma, LA, received moderate injuries and was transported to Terrebonne General by Acadian Ambulance. Alcohol use is unknown on the part of Malbrough. Toxicology results are pending from the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. Hebert did submit to a breath test, and his results were .000g% indicating no alcohol. The investigation is still being conducted by troopers. Currently, there are no charges pending.
