Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: July 21, 2008 New Commander at Troop C Named Colonel Mike Edmonson is proud to announce the promotion of Executive Officer Darrin Naquin to the position of Captain at Louisiana State Police Troop C. In his new position, Captain Naquin will oversee all operations of the Troop C area, which includes Assumption, Lafourche, Terrebonne, and the west banks of St. John, and St. James’ Parishes. A native of Plattenville, LA, Captain Naquin always knew he wanted to have a career in law enforcement. He began his career by working for the Nicholls State University Police Department in 1987. One year later he became a Sheriff’s Deputy with the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office working as a road deputy until he was accepted into the Louisiana State Police Training Academy, 67th Session. Upon graduating from the training academy in April 1990, Capt. Naquin began his career with the Louisiana State Police as a patrol trooper at Troop C in Gray. As a trooper, Capt. Naquin has worked in the uniform patrol section and also served as Troop C’s Public Information Officer. In 1998, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant where he served as a first line supervisor on a patrol shift. He also served for several years as a member of LSP’s SWAT Team. Capt. Naquin had many different responsibilities as a Sergeant including: supervising Troop C’s Criminal Patrols Unit, the Hit & Run and Fatality Section, and Troop C’s Crash Response Team, which was responsible for responding to serious and fatal crashes when called upon. He was also responsible for overseeing Troop C’s crash reconstruction program, gathering stats and information for various programs including Troop C’s own “TrafficStat” program, and disseminating information to Troop C personnel. On December 8, 2004, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and on December 29, 2004, former Captain Penouilh selected Capt. Naquin as Troop C’s Executive Officer. In his position as Executive Officer, he served as second in command of Troop C and acting commander in the absence of the former Captain Penouilh. He also assisted in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the troop and supervised a wide array of support functions to include dispatch, fleet operations and evidence. Captain Naquin received an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Nicholls State University. Continuing his education, Captain Naquin earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Louisiana State University. Captain Naquin is a POST (Peace Officer Standards & Training) certified instructor. He is an instructor in the field of Accident Investigation and has taught cadets at the Louisiana State Police Training Academy since 1997. For several years, Captain Naquin has been the Supervising Instructor/ Coordinator of Accident Investigation training for the Academy. His specialized training includes, but is not limited to; Drug Interdiction Assistance, Vehicle Interdiction, Intelligence Networking and Training, Accident Reconstruction, SWAT, FBI / POST Instructor Development, FBI Public Information Officer Training, Operation Lifesaver Grade Crossing Collision Instructor, Crash Data Retrieval Training, and Highway Incident Management to name a few. Captain Naquin’s training and expertise have not gone unnoticed, as he is the recipient of many Louisiana State Police Awards. In both 1995 and 1998, he was selected as the Troop C Affiliate “Member of the Year”. In 2002, Captain Naquin received the Louisiana State Police Emergency Service Award and he also received the Louisiana State Police Unit Citation Award in 2004, 2005, and 2007. He is the recipient of two Louisiana State Police Professional Excellence Awards for the Statewide Disaster Evacuation Plan in 2005 and Troop C Seat Belt Enforcement in 2007. Captain Naquin received a meritorious award in 2005. Captain Naquin was recognized by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission for efforts toward the revision of the state crash report form and manual. Captain Naquin attended the 229th Session of the National FBI Academy in Quantico, VA. The Academy is known on an international level for its academic excellence. This program offers 10 weeks of advanced investigative, management, and fitness training for selected officers having proven records as professionals within their agencies. Colonel Edmonson and all troopers at Louisiana State Police Troop C are proud to have Captain Naquin as the Commander of Troop C. Captain Naquin is well respected, not only among all in the State Police Organization, but also among other agencies and citizens as well. Capt. Naquin is married to the former Dawn Melancon.
