Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: August 2, 2008 Golden Meadow Man Critically Injured in Southern Lafourche Parish Crash On Saturday 8-2-08 at 2:20 PM, Troop C troopers were notified of a serious injury traffic crash on LA 1 near West 201st Street, just north of Golden Meadow in Lafourche Parish. Mavis Orgeron (W/M/76 of Golden Meadow, LA) was operating his 2008 Lexus RX 350 southbound on LA 1 when he drifted across the centerline into the northbound lane and struck a northbound 18-wheeler being operated by Daniel Blaylock (W/M/32 of Peyton, CO). Blaylock indicated that Orgeron appeared to be slumped over the steering wheel as his vehicle drifted across the centerline. Family members indicated that Orgeron had some medical problems. Orgeron was not wearing his seat belt, but both occupants in the 18 wheeler were seat belted. Orgeron was transported to Lady of the Sea Hospital in critical condition. He did sustain injuries from the traffic crash; however, it is currently unknown if his life threatening condition is a result of the traffic crash or a medical condition. Those results are pending. Blaylock and his passenger, Jennifer Hasty, were not injured. Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in this crash for either driver; however, blood has been taken from both and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Results are pending. Currently, no charges have been filed. TFC Kevin Resweber continues his investigation.
