TROOP A NEWS RELEASE October 4, 2015 Bicyclist Struck and Killed by Vehicle in Iberville Parish Crash Bayou Sorrel, LA – Shortly before 8:00 pm on October 3, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash involving a bicyclist on LA 75 south of LA 404 in Iberville Parish. The crash took the life of 23 year old Brandi Mendoza of Plaquemine, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Mendoza was traveling southbound on LA 75 on her bicycle. At the same time, 41 year old Bradley Poston of Plaquemine, LA was traveling southbound on LA 75 in a 2005 Buick SUV. As Poston approached Mendoza from behind, the right side of his vehicle struck Mendoza and her bicycle. Mendoza was transported to Ocshner Hospital in Plaquemine where she was pronounced deceased. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. A toxicology sample will be taken from Mendoza and Poston and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. At the time of the crash, Mendoza was not wearing a helmet and she did not have the required white light on the front of her of her bicycle and red light in the rear. Mendoza was also wearing dark colored clothing. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind bicyclists to never assume that a motorist can see you. Simple precautions such as wearing an approved bicycle helmet, reflective materials, and avoiding distractions are key to preventing crashes and avoiding injuries.
