| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: May 10, 2008 South Lafourche Crash Results in Fatality On Thursday, May 8, 2008 at 6:37 am, Troop C investigated a two vehicle single fatality crash on LA 308 south of Valentine in Lafourche Parish. A 1993 Toyota Camry, was traveling north on LA 308 following an unknown vehicle. A 2001 Peterbilt towing a tank trailer was traveling north on LA 308 behind the Camry. The driver of the Peterbilt, Charles Morland (W/M, 35, of Napoleonville, LA), was passing the Camry in a legal passing zone. While the Peterbilt was passing the Camry, the driver of the Camry, Danis Flores (H/M, 18, of Galliano, LA), attempted to pass the unknown vehicle in front of him. Upon doing so he struck the front right tire of the Peterbilt. After impact, the Camry rotated counterclockwise and went off the southbound lane. The Camry struck a tree then began to overturn and struck another tree in the roof area. There were five total Hispanic occupants in the Camry and all were wearing seat belts. The front seat passenger died due to injuries sustained in the crash. The other four occupants were transported to Lady of the Sea Hospital by Acadian Ambulance. Notification to kin is still pending. Morland was wearing his seat belt and refused medical attention at the scene. S/T Donald Callais is the investigating trooper and continues his investigation.
