| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: May 10, 2008 Lafourche Crash Near Lafourche Crossing Leaves One Dead On Friday, May 9, 2008 at 2:09 pm, Troop C investigated a two vehicle single fatality crash on LA 308 near the Lafourche Crossing in Lafourche Parish. Keia Sumler (B/F, 18, of Gretna, LA) was operating a 1996 Honda Accord southbound on LA 308 at a high rate speed when she proceeded to pass several vehicles in a no passing zone just north of the Lafourche Crossing. After completing the passing maneuver and returning to her lane, she ran off the roadway to the right just south of the Lafourche Crossing where she overcorrected. Her vehicle then crossed the centerline and struck a 2007 Ford Crown Victoria being operated northbound on LA 308 by David Tate (W/M, 52, of Thibodaux, LA). The Accord rotated counterclockwise and was struck in the passenger side by the front of the Crown Victoria. Sumler was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene. Tate was wearing his seatbelt and sustained moderate injuries. He was transported to Thibodaux Regional by Acadian Ambulance. Alcohol and drug-use are unknown at this time, but results are pending analysis. S/T Kirk Foret is the investigating trooper and continues his investigation.
