Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: February 14, 2009 Pedestrian Struck by Florida Man in Golden Meadow, LA Golden Meadow- About twenty-four hours after a five year old child from Mississippi was killed, a Golden Meadow man was struck and killed by a pickup truck as he crossed the roadway in southern Lafourche Parish. On February 14, 2009, at approximately 7:15 PM, a 2006 Ford F-150, driven by Keith Childers (W/M, 30, of Seminole, FL), was northbound on LA 3235 at LA 1 in Golden Meadow, LA. A pedestrian, William Shields (W/M, 41, of Golden Meadow) was walking across LA 3235 eastbound. For unknown reasons, Shields did not see the Ford. Shields was struck with the right front corner of the Ford as he crossed the roadway. Shields was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Childers had his wife, Jennifer Childers, as a passenger and they were both wearing their seat belts. Childers did submit to a breath test with BAC results of .000g%, indicating no alcohol. Alcohol use is suspected for Shields. Blood results are pending from the Lafourche Parish Coroner's Office. The crash is being investigated by Tpr. Simon Besson.
