Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: March 1, 2010 Two Males, an 18 and 22 Year Old of Gray Dies in Crash Houma – On Monday, March 1, 2010 at 4:34 a.m., a single vehicle crash on LA 660 in Terrebonne Parish claimed the life of two males, an 18 and 22 year old of Gray, LA. Russell Yarborough (W/M, 18 of Gray, LA) was operating a 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix, northbound on LA 660 in Houma, LA, when he failed to negotiate a left bank curve. Yarborough’s vehicle began to rotate counter clockwise and ran off of the roadway across the southbound lane striking a utility pole and traffic control box. Yarborough was ejected from the vehicle upon impact. The right front seat passenger, Jacob Clement (W/M, 22 of Gray, LA.) was pinned in the vehicle and had to be extricated. Yarborough and Clement were not wearing seat belts and received fatal injuries. They were pronounced dead at the scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. Alcohol use is suspected; however, speed appears to be the major factor in the crash. Blood was drawn has per state law and results are pending from the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. Troopers are still investigating the crash. Louisiana state law requires everyone in a vehicle to wear seat belts. Statistics show that the safest place to be when a vehicle overturns is INSIDE the vehicle. The only way to ensure this is to be properly restrained inside the vehicle.
