Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: February 19, 2010 Fatal Crash in Assumption Parish Claims the Life of a 62 Year Old Belle Rose Man Klotzville – On February 19, 2010 at approximately1:58p.m.,Troop C investigated a two vehicle crash in the 6500 block of LA 1 in Assumption Parish. The crash claimed the life of a 62 year old Belle Rose man. Herman S. Dickerson Jr. (B/M, 62 of Belle Rose, LA) was operating a 2000 Ford Explorer southbound on LA 1 and, for unknown reasons, failed to negotiate a right hand curve. Dickerson’s vehicle crossed the centerline into the northbound lane striking a 2009 GMC pickup driven by Richard Giroir (W/M, 64 of Belle Rose, LA) who was northbound on LA1. Dickerson’s vehicle came to rest in the northbound lane, and Giroir’s vehicle flipped and came to rest on its roof in a ditch off of the northbound shoulder. Dickerson and Giroir were wearing their seat belts. Dickerson was pronounced dead at the scene by the Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office. Girior received moderate injuries and was transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance. Alcohol and / or drug involvement is not suspected in the crash; however, blood samples were taken from both drivers as per state law and results are pending from the Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office and the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.
