Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: February14, 2010 47 Year Old Grand Isle Woman Dies in Crash Grand Isle – On Sunday, February 14, 2010 at 11:08 p.m., a single vehicle crash on LA 1 at Oliver Lane in the corporation limits of Grand Isle, LA., in Jefferson Parish claimed the life of a 47 year old female of Grand Isle, LA. Lori Santiny (W/F, 47 of Grand Isle, LA) was operating a 2009 Mitsubishi Outlander, northbound on LA 1 in Grand Isle, LA. when she ran off of the southbound lane striking a cement culvert; at which time, the vehicle continued off the roadway, overturned striking a utility pole and coming to rest in a ditch. Santiny, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and received fatal injuries. Santiny was pronounced dead at the scene. Alcohol use and speed is suspected to be a factor in the crash. Blood results are pending from the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. No charges filed. Troopers are still continuing their investigation. Louisiana state law requires everyone in a vehicle to wear seat belts. Statistics show that the safest place to be when a vehicle overturns is INSIDE the vehicle. The only way to ensure this is to be properly restrained inside the vehicle.
