Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: December 15, 2009 47 year Old Montegut Woman Dies in Crash Chauvin- A single vehicle crash on LA. 56 in Terrebonne Parish claimed the life of a 47 year old female of Montegut, LA. Roy Leonard (W/M, 32, of Houma, LA) was operating a 2004 Toyota Corolla southbound on LA 56 in Chauvin, LA. and for unknown reasons, Mr. Leonard’s vehicle crossed the centerline into the northbound and continued off the roadway striking an abandon building. Mr. Leonard, who was wearing his seatbelt, received serious injuries. Ms. Virginia Newsome (W/F, 47, of Montegut, LA.) who was the right front passenger, wearing her seatbelt received fatal injuries. Both were transported to Leonard Chabert Memorial Hospital by Acadian Ambulance. Mr. Leonard was later transported to University Hospital in New Orleans, LA. and Ms. Newsome was pronounced dead at Leonard Chabert Memorial Hospital in Houma, LA. Impairment is suspected to be a factor in the crash. Blood was drawn from Mr. Leonard and will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Charges in the crash are as follows: Careless Operation, Vehicular Homicide, and No Drivers License. Mr. Leonard will be booked upon being released from the hospital.
