Edmonson, Superintendent News Release December 17, 2009 Crash Claims the Life of a 62-Year-Old Mississippi Man Galliano- Louisiana State Police Troop C investigated a crash on La. 3235 near the Galliano Inn in Galliano, LA. The crash occurred at 8:33 p.m., December 16, 2009, involving a vehicle and pedestrian. Mark Savoie (W/M, 51 of Cut Off, LA.) was operating a 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche southbound on LA. 3235 near the Galliano Inn in the right lane when the pedestrian, Philip Baker (W/M, 62 of Hattiesburg, MS.) ran out in front of Savoie from the southbound shoulder. Savoie attempted to avoid by swerving to the left, but the passenger mirror struck Baker. Savoie, who was wearing his seatbelt, received no injuries. Merlyn Foret (W/F, 53 of Cut Off, LA.) the right front seat passenger in Savoie’s vehicle was also wearing her seatbelt and received no injuries. South Lafourche Ambulance transported Baker to Lady of the Sea Hospital in Galliano, LA. Baker was later transferred to University Hospital in New Orleans, La., where he succumbed from his injuries. Alcohol and Drug involvement in the crash is unknown pending results from the Coroner’s Office. No charges filed in the crash. Trooper William Powell investigated the crash.
