Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: January 6, 2010 44 Year Old Gibson Woman Dies in Crash Houma – On Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 9:06 p.m., a single vehicle crash on Southdown Mandalay Road in Terrebonne Parish claimed the life of a 44 year old female of Gibson, LA. Jacqueline Simmons (W/F, 44 of Gibson, LA) was operating a 1996 Ford Thunderbird, westbound on Southdown Mandalay Road in Houma, LA. when she drove off of the westbound lane striking several trees; at which time, the vehicle caught fire trapping Simmons in the vehicle. Simmons, who was wearing a seatbelt, received fatal injuries. Simmons was pronounced dead at the scene. Due to the fire, positive identification could not be determined at the scene of the crash. Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office was able to make a positive identification from medical records. Alcohol and Drug use is unknown; however, speed appears to be a factor in the crash. Blood results are pending from the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. No charges filed. Troopers are still continuing their investigation. Contact Information: | |||
