Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: January 25, 2010 Two Men Arrested For Illegally Possessing Prescription Pills in Terrebonne Parish Houma- On January 19 and 20, 2010, the Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division, Houma Office, arrested two men from Terrebonne Parish for illegally possessing prescription drugs. The two arrests seized a large amount of various prescription drugs and U.S. currency. On January 19, 2010, Troopers arrested Walter Corrado (W/M, 68 of Chauvin, LA.) on warrants from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office. The warrants stemmed from an investigation involving the Possession with Intent to Distribute Hydrocodone and Oxycontin. During the arrest, information was gathered to obtain a search warrant for Corrado’s residence. The search warrant seized 256 dosage units of Hydrocodone, 182 dosage units of Soma, 222 dosage units of Xanax, 74 dosage units of Oxycontin, and $ 8, 141.00 in U.S. Currency. In addition to the arrest warrants, Corrado was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Hydrocodone, Soma, Xanax, and Oxycontin On January 20, 2010, Troopers received information that Shawn LeBlanc (W/M, 36 of Houma, LA.) was involved in selling illegal narcotics in Terrebonne pariah. The Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations and Division and the Terrebonne Parish Narcotics Unit met with LeBlanc at his residence and LeBlanc cooperated with authorities. A search warrant seized 691 dosage units of Soma, 90 dosage units of Xanax, 64 dosage units of Oxycontin, 32 dosage units of Klonopin, and 6 vials of Steroids. LeBlanc was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Soma, Xanax, Oxycontin, Klonopin, and Possession of Steroids. Both men were booked at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex on their charges. An estimated $52,080.00 in a street value of narcotics was seized between both men. Information that was gathered during the investigation revealed that the pills were obtained by other parties and then diverted to illegal sale. The Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division was assisted by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service, the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the Houma Police Department. Prescription drug abuse is one of the fastest growing trends in narcotics use today and can be more addictive and dangerous than some of the common known narcotics. Gov. Bobby Jindal has made the investigating of prescription fraud and abuse a top priority of the Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division.
