Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: May 12, 2010 Pierre Part Man Dies in Crash Assumption – On May 12, 2010, at approximately 6:05 a.m., Troop C investigated a two vehicle crash on LA 70 in Assumption Parish. The crash claimed the life of a 31- year- old man from Pierre Part, LA. Randall Cavalier (W/M, 31 of Pierre Part, LA) was operating a 2005 Ford F-150 northbound on LA 70 in Pierre Part, LA. Cavalier failed to negotiate a right bank curve, crossed the centerline into the southbound lane and struck a 2005 GMC truck, driven by James Medlen (W/M, 31 of Gonzales, LA.) head on. After impact, Medlen’s vehicle rolled onto the driver’s side blocking both the north and southbound lanes of LA 70. Cavalier’s vehicle came to rest partially on the southbound lane and shoulder of LA 70. Cavalier was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Assumption by Acadian Ambulance where he was pronounced dead from injuries received in the crash. Medlen received minor injuries in the crash and refused medical attention. Cavalier and Medlen were wearing seat belts. Alcohol usage on Cavalier is pending blood results from Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office. A breath test was administered to Medlen and results indicated no alcohol involvement.
