Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: September 1, 2010 “NO REFUSAL” For The Labor Day Holiday Gray- Louisiana State Police Troop C, Terrebonne, Lafourche, Assumption, St. James, and St. John the Baptist District Attorney’s Office’s and local Law Enforcement agencies will participate once again in the “No Refusal” Labor Day holiday. As the Labor Day holiday approaches and the summer travel peaks, law enforcement agencies nationwide will be out in force conducting checkpoints and having extra enforcement on our nation’s highways. Troop C troopers will be out in force to ensure the safety of everyone as they travel to their destinations. For those individuals suspected of impaired driving and refuse to submit to a chemical test, a search warrant for a blood and/or urine sample will be obtained. By implementing the “No Refusal” for the Labor Day Holiday authorities are hoping for a safer and memorable end of summer for 2010. In a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) survey of 6,999 people, one in twelve drivers admitted to driving drunk at least once over the course of a year, twenty percent had driven in the past year within two hours of drinking, and four out of five considered drinking and driving a major threat to their safety. Troopers will continue to focus their enforcement efforts on the state’s DWI and Seat Belt laws to ensure compliance. Impaired drivers are a danger to themselves and to everyone else sharing the road.
