Edmonson, Superintendent News Release July 28, 2010 Slidell Man Dies in Crash Houma- On July 28, 2010, at approximately 3:33 a.m., Troop C investigated a fatal crash on Bayou Gardens Blvd. east of Alma Street in Houma, LA. The crash claimed the life of a 20-year-old Slidell man. Derrick Collins (B/M, 42 of Gray, LA) was operating a 2003 Cadillac Escalade eastbound in the right lane on Bayou Gardens Blvd. in Houma, LA. A pedestrian, Jacob Bollingham (W/M, 20 of Slidell, LA.) was walking in the roadway of the eastbound lane in the path of Collins’ vehicle. When Collins observed the pedestrian, he attempted to change lanes in an attempt to avoid impact; however, he was unable to do so and struck Bollingham. The impact occured in the right lane of the eastbound side of Bayou Gardens Blvd. Bollingham, who was transported to Terrebonne General Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance, received fatal injuries from the crash. Alcohol and Drug use is unknown on Bollingham pending blood results from the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. Collins, who was wearing a seat belt, received no injuries. A breath test performed on Collins indicated no alcohol involvement. No charges filed and Troopers are continuing their investigation.
