| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: June 11, 2010 Former Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Arrested After Three Month Investigation Assumption- On Friday, June 11, 2010, at 2:48 p.m., the Louisiana State Police Region I Criminal Investigative Unit arrested Louis Lambert (W/M, 47 of Labadieville, LA.) on multiple charges of malfeasance in office after a three-month investigation. Lambert served as the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office Evidence Officer. Lambert was arrested after a warrant was obtained in Assumption Parish for the following charges: 538 counts of Malfeasance in Office (by tampering with evidence), 17 counts of Illegal Carrying of a Weapon with Narcotics, and one count of Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Narcotic. He was also arrested for an outstanding warrant in Lafourche Parish for Obtaining a Control Dangerous Substance by Fraud. Lambert’s arrest stemmed from a three-month investigation conducted by the Louisiana State Police Region I Criminal Investigative Unit. The investigation was launched on April 7, 2010 at the request of Assumption Parish Sheriff Mike Waguespack and Assumption Parish District Attorney Ricky Babin. The request was made due to numerous irregularities that were discovered in the evidence that was being submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab by Lambert, who was the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office’s evidence custodian at the time. The State Police investigation followed an internal investigation conducted by the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office during which it was learned that evidence from numerous cases had been switched prior to being submitted to the State Police Crime Lab. On April 8, 2010, a search warrant was obtained for Lambert’s residence. During the search, detectives located 102 Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office evidence envelopes containing seized evidence from primarily narcotics investigations. Many of the evidence envelopes had been tampered with and the contents altered, replaced, or removed. Troopers also located over five pounds of suspected marijuana, numerous dosage units of unknown pills, and seventeen weapons at the residence. A subsequent inspection of the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office Evidence Vault revealed that an additional 435 evidence envelopes had been tampered with and the contents altered, replaced, or removed. Lambert was arrested and booked at the Assumption Parish Jail. He is currently being held without bond. Contact Information: | |||
