Single Vehicle Crash Claims The Life Of A Houma Child

Houma- A single vehicle crash on Shrimpers Row in Terrebonne Parish claimed the life of a four year old male of Houma, LA.

Darryl Parfait, (W/M, 43 of Houma, LA), was operating a 2004 Cadillac CTS northbound on Shrimpers Row in Dulac, LA. Parfait’s vehicle, for unknown reasons, ran off the northbound lane into a ditch striking the driveway. The vehicle exited the ditch and came back to rest in the roadway.

Darryl Parfait received no injuries. Gypsy Parfait, (W/F, 30 of Houma, LA.), who was the right front passenger, received critical injuries. Jayden Parfait, (W/M, 4 of Houma, LA.), rear passenger left, received fatal injuries. Aydon Parfait, (W/M, 6 mos. of Houma, LA.), rear passenger center, received serious injuries, and Brandon Parfait, (W/M, 9 of Houma, LA.), rear passenger right, received serious injuries.

Gypsy and Aydon Parfait were transported to Chabert Medical Center, Brandon Parfait was transported to Terrebonne Medical Center and Jayden Parfait was pronounced dead at the scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner and was transported to the morgue.

All five occupants were not properly restrained. The six month old was in an approved child safety seat, but the seat was not secured. Louisiana law requires everyone in the vehicle to be properly restrained and not to drive impaired.

Impairment and not being properly restrained are factors in the crash. A breath test was given to Darryl Parfait which resulted in a blood alcohol concentration in excess of the legal limit. Charges in the crash are as follows: Improper Lane Usage, DWI with Child Endangerment, one count of Vehicular Homicide, three counts of First Degree Vehicular Negligent Injuries, No Seat Belt and No Child Restraints. Darryl Parfait was booked at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex. Troopers are still continuing their investigation.
