Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: April 25, 2009 Man Struck and Killed on LA 308 Intracoastal Overpass in Larose by Unknown Large Vehicle Larose- A Larose resident was killed while riding a bicycle after being struck by an unknown large vehicle on the Intracoastal Overpass in Larose, LA. After the crash, the unknown vehicle left the scene. Any information of the possible whereabouts of the unknown large vehicle should call Troop C at 985-857-3680 as soon as possible. The bicycle, operated by Jose J. Licona (H/M, 21, of Larose), was traveling south over the Intracoastal Overpass (LA 308) in Larose. The bicycle was traveling in the southbound lane. The bicycle was struck by a large vehicle, possibly an 18-wheeler. Licona was ejected from the bicycle and thrown against the railing of the overpass. The unknown large vehicle left the scene and has not been located. Small parts of the bicycle were left at the scene, but the bicycle was not located. Licona received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Alcohol involvement is suspected on the behalf of Licona. Toxicology results on Licona are pending from the Lafourche Parish Coroner's Office. Local agencies were notified of the incident and of the type of vehicle involved. This crash occurred on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at approximately 2:30 AM. Trooper Leeman Howard is continuing his investigation. Contact Information: | |||
