| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: April 12, 2009 Motorcycle Driver Dies After Striking Vehicle in Rear in Houma, LA Houma- A 35 year old man died last night after the motorcycle he was operating struck the rear of another vehicle in Houma, LA. A 2007 Kawasaki ZX 14 motorcycle, driven by Cody Rodrigue (W/M, 35, of Houma, LA), was northbound on LA 659 just south of the Lafayette Woods Subdivision. A 1991 Ford Explorer, driven by Edwardo Vera Jr. (W/M, 43, of Houma, LA), was also northbound on LA 659 traveling just ahead of the motorcycle. The motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to slow down to a safe speed at a safe distance behind the Ford Explorer. The motorcycle fell onto its side, caused by Rodrigue’s failed attempt to avoid a rear end collision with the Explorer. The motorcycle slid into the rear of the Explorer. After impact, the motorcycle continued in a northwest direction as it crossed the center line, traveled off the left side of the roadway, and came to rest in an open field. Rodrigue was totally ejected from the motorcycle at impact and traveled off the roadway right where he struck a mail box and came to rest on the shoulder. Vera was wearing his seat belt and was not injured. Vera’s breath test indicated no alcohol with results of .000g%. Rodrigue was wearing a DOT approved helmet in the crash. Alcohol is not suspected, but toxicology results are pending. This crash occurred on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at approximately 10:00 PM. Tpr. Joseph Dier is continuing his investigation.
