New Orleans Man Critically Injured in Overturned Tanker Truck Hauling Raw Sewage

Houma- Two New Orleans residents were injured, one critical and one minor, when the tanker truck they were traveling in overturned on US 90 in Lafourche Parish.

The investigation revealed that Rochon Mackie (B/M, 30, of New Orleans) was operating a tanker truck, owned by SDT, LLC, westbound on US 90 when it veered off the roadway to the left, overcorrected, and veered off the roadway to the right. The tanker then overturned. Mackie was not wearing his seat belt, and he was ejected. He sustained critical injuries and was transported to St. Anne Hospital in Raceland, LA. The passenger, Mario Hartford (B/M, 22, of New Orleans), sustained minor injuries and was also transported to St. Anne Hospital. Hartford was wearing his seat belt.

The SDT tanker truck was hauling raw sewage which did leak onto the side of the road. A cleanup company, Oilmop, and DEQ responded and monitored the cleanup. Charges and toxicology results are pending. This crash occurred on Friday, April 17, 2009 just prior to 11:30 AM on US 90 westbound on the east side of the LA 308/1 overpass. Trooper Corey Pennison is continuing his investigation.
