Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: April 23, 2009 Troop C Investigates First Double Fatality Crash of 2009 Labadieville- A single vehicle crash in Assumption Parish last night, claimed the life of two Donaldsonville residents. This fatal crash occurred in Assumption Parish on LA 398 near LA 1013. A 1998 Ford Escort, driven by Anthony Whittington (B/M, 44, of Donaldsonville), was traveling east on LA 398 when it traveled off of the roadway to the right. Whittington overcorrected to the left in an attempt to re-enter LA 398. While re-entering LA 398, the Escort began to rotate in counter-clockwise and overturned several times. The Escort came to rest on all four wheels in the eastbound lane of LA 398. As the vehicle overturned, the unrestrained right rear passenger, Gladys Jupiter (B/F, 45, of Donaldsonville), was ejected from the vehicle. Jupiter came to rest on the eastbound shoulder of LA 398, suffered fatal injuries, and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office. The front right passenger, Shari Kent (B/F, 47, of Donaldsonville), was properly restrained, sustained minor injuries, and transported to Teche Regional Hospital in Morgan City. The driver, Whittington, was wearing his seat belt, but suffered fatal injuries in the crash. He was pronounced dead on the scene by the Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office. Alcohol and drug use is unknown pending toxicology analysis from the coroner’s office. No charges have been filed in reference to this crash.
