Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: April 27, 2009 *** UPDATE*** ARREST MADE Man Struck and Killed on LA 308 Intracoastal Overpass in Larose by Unknown Large Vehicle Larose- An arrest was made on the morning of Sunday, April 26, 2009, after a call received by Louisiana State Police led to the discovery of the driver of the 18-wheeler that struck and killed a Larose bicyclist. The driver of the Kenworth truck, Lina James Knott (W/M, 31, of Henderson, LA), admitted to driving the eighteen wheeler that struck and killed Licona. Knott also admitted to investigating troopers about him tampering with evidence by removing the bicycle from the scene and placing it behind a bait shop where he delivered products for his job. The bicycle, operated by Jose J. Licona (H/M, 21, of Larose), was traveling south over the Intracoastal Overpass (LA 308) in Larose when he was struck and killed. The bicycle was traveling in the southbound lane. The bicycle was struck by Knottās vehicle. Licona was ejected from the bicycle and thrown against the railing of the overpass. Knott fled the scene and was arrested near Lafayette, LA the next morning. Knott was arrested for Felony Hit and Run and Obstruction of Justice. He was booked and jailed at the Lafourche Parish Jail. The crash occurred at approximately 2:30 AM on Saturday, April 25, 2009. Trooper Leeman Howard is continuing his investigation. Contact Information: | |||
