Driver Killed; Passengers Injured in Terrebonne Parish Crash
Cocodrie- Three occupants of a Dodge pickup were involved in a single vehicle crash near Cocodrie, LA killing one and injuring the other two.

A single vehicle fatality crash occurred on LA 56 near Riggio Street in Cocodrie on Thursday, February 17, 2009 at approximately 6:20 AM. William Thompson Jr. (W/M, 33, of Church Point, LA) was operating his 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 northbound on LA 56 when he failed to safely negotiate a slight left curve in the roadway. His vehicle then veered off the roadway to the right and struck two mailboxes. Thompson then overcorrected to the right which caused the truck to veer across the roadway as it rotated counterclockwise. It ran off the roadway to the left, overturned, and flipped several times. Thompson was wearing his seat belt, but his two passengers were not restrained during the crash.

Thompson sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Thompson's passengers, Harris Leger (W/M, 40, of Church Point, LA) and John Matte (W/M, 31, of Church Point, LA), sustained moderate injuries and were transported to Leonard Chabert Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance.

Alcohol is suspected to be a factor and blood analysis results are pending from the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. Two small bags of suspected marijuana were located in the truck during the initial investigation. Trooper Christopher Mason is continuing his investigation.
