Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: February 24, 2009 Motorcycle Crash Claims Life of Napoleonville Man Paincourtville- A single vehicle crash on LA 1 in Paincourtville, LA leaves a Napoleonville, LA man dead. On Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at approximately 4:45 PM, Darrell Thomas, 40, of Napoleonville, was operating a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle northbound on LA 1 just north of LA 70. A vehicle turned out of Ewell St. and proceeded north on LA 1. Thomas, who was traveling at a high rate of speed, took evasive action to avoid a possible collision and laid his motorcycle down. He left the road to the right and struck a culvert. Thomas was ejected from his motorcycle. Thomas, who was the only occupant on his motorcycle, was transported to Assumption Community Hospital. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Thomas was wearing a D.O.T. approved helmet. Alcohol use is unknown at this time, but a blood analysis is pending from the Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office. There are no charges pending in the crash. Troopers are continuing their investigation.
