Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: March 11, 2009 One Dead and One Critical After Three Vehicle Crash in Terrebonne Parish Houma- One passenger is dead and one driver is critically injured after a three vehicle crash that occurred on LA 311 just north of Savanne Road this morning in Houma, LA. Courtney Arabie (W/F, 19, of Thibodaux, LA) was operating a 2007 Hyundai Tiburon southbound on LA 311 when she proceeded to pass another southbound vehicle. While doing so, she sideswiped a northbound 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe being operated by Harry Bernard (W/M, 54, of Thibodaux, LA). Bernard took evasive action by steering to his right; however, Arabie's vehicle sideswiped Bernard's vehicle. Leonard Lacosta (W/M, 65, of Pierre Part, LA) was operating his 2005 Nissan Altima northbound on LA 311 behind Bernard. After the initial impact, Arabie's vehicle struck Lacosta's vehicle head-on. Courtney Arabie sustained serious injuries and was transported to Thibodaux Regional. Leonard Lacosta was transported to Terrebonne General with moderate injuries. Mr. Lacosta's wife, Suzanne Lacoste (W/F, 52, wife of Leonard Lacosta), sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. Bernard sustained minor injuries but refused treatment. All four of them were wearing their seat belts. This crash occurred on Wednesday, April 11, 2009 at approximately 9:55 AM. Troopers Christopher Mason & Barry Domangue are continuing their investigation.
