TROOP A NEWS RELEASE
August 11, 2015
Maurice Woman Dies in Four Vehicle Crash on Interstate 10 in Iberville Parish

Ramah, LA Shortly before 7:00 am on August 11, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a four vehicle fatality crash that occurred on Interstate 10 eastbound west of Ramah. The crash took the life of 33 year old Tracy Franques of Maurice, LA.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as traffic was stopped on Interstate 10 eastbound due to congestion from a previous crash. 57 year old John Witt of Deer Park, TX was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 in a 2007 International box truck. As Witt approached the stopped traffic, he steered to the left to avoid striking the vehicle in front of him. Witt then hit Franques 2013 Ford Focus and began to push it forward. Franquess vehicle struck a 2013 Hyundai Sonata being driven by 33 year old Jason Ross of Baytown, TX. Rosss vehicle was pushed into the right lane as Witts vehicle continued to push Franquess vehicle forward. Franquess vehicle then struck the rear of a 2016 Peterbuilt 18-wheeler being driven by 56 year old Danny Richard of Crowley, LA.

Franques was restrained but received fatal injuries as a result of the crash. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Iberville Parish Coroners Office. Witt and Ross received minor injuries in the crash. All parties were properly restrained and impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. A toxicology sample was taken from Witt, Franques, and Ross and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Richard was given a chemical breath test and no signs of impairment were detected.

This crash remains under investigation and will be referred to the Iberville Parish District Attorney’s Office. Charges are pending.
