Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: March 14, 2009 16 Year Old Critically Injured in Second Serious Assumption Parish Crash of the Night A 16 year old male driver was critically injured and his passenger was moderately injured in a crash in Assumption Parish. A 1991 Ford Festiva, driven by a 16 year old white male from Donaldsonville, LA, was traveling northbound on LA 70 in Assumption Parish while approaching its intersection with LA 1. For unknown reasons, the vehicle exited the roadway to the right, traveled into a ditch, and struck an embankment with the right front bumper. After impact, the vehicle rotated clockwise and overturned onto its driver's side. This action caused the unrestrained 16 year old driver to be ejected from the vehicle. The passenger, Theodore Martinez (17, of Gonzales), was only wearing his lap belt and remained in the vehicle during the crash. Both occupants were transported to Thibodaux Regional Hospital with the driver sustaining critical injuries and the passenger, Martinez, sustaining moderate injuries. Alcohol use is suspected on behalf of the driver with the results pending from the LSP Crime Lab in Baton Rouge. This crash occurred on March 13, 2009 at approximately 9:20 PM.
