Unrestrained 19 Year Old Critically Injured in 1st of Two Serious Assumption Parish Crashes

A 19 year old man was critically injured and three others were moderately injured in a crash in Assumption Parish. This is the first of two crashes that occurred on March 13, 2009 PM. The crash happened at approximately 7:45 PM.

A 2007 GMC Sierra truck, driven by Gregory Hedges Jr. (W/M, 19, of Pierre Part), was northbound in a right curve on LA 69 just east of LA 70. His passengers were Megan Blanchard (W/F, 18, of Napoleonville) and Megan Wyckoff (W/F, 18, of Napoleonville). A 1999 Ford F-150 truck, driven by Carl Saucier (W/M, 45, of Baker), was on LA 69 traveling southbound in the same curve. The GMC failed to negotiate the right curve and crossed the centerline into the southbound lane where it struck the Ford head-on.

Hedges sustained severe injuries in of the crash and was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transported from St. Elizabeth Hospital to Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge. The GMC’s passengers, Megan Blanchard and Megan Wyckoff, were transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales. Saucier received moderate injuries in the crash and was also transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Alcohol use is unknown from both drivers with the results pending from the LSP Crime Lab in Baton Rouge. Seat belts were not worn by either of the occupants of the GMC. Saucier was properly restrained in his seat belt. The investigation is ongoing by Tpr. Burnell Dedeaux.
