Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: March 17, 2009 Troop C Communications Specialist Recognized Statewide for Outstanding Service State Police Communication Specialist III Bruce Coleman’s commitment to the citizens of Louisiana and the Department of Public Safety has been recognized statewide and for his excellence he has been awarded the 2008 Richard Honeycutt Award. This award recognizes outstanding service and dedication to duty by communications officers of the State Police. It commemorates the memory of Richard Honeycutt, a communications supervisor who dedicated 27 years of his life to Troop E. Despite daily pain and medical complications from shrapnel wounds from World War II, Richard Honeycutt rarely missed work or complained. His dedication to the job and his expertise on the radio were legendary. Candidates should be selected on the basis of performance deemed outstanding and exemplary. SPCS III Coleman has been employed with the Department of Public Safety since May, 2007 and is assigned to Troop C, serving as a Communication Specialist III. He was formerly employed with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office for five years before sustaining a career ending injury in a vehicle crash. He soon turned his police knowledge and drive into a career as a communication specialist. He worked for the Houma Police Department prior to being hired by the Department of Public Safety. Although he has only had a short stint so far with the department, he has gained tremendous respect from every employee. He is always willing to assist and accomplish the mission at hand. With his vast knowledge of available resources, he gets the needed information. This was witnessed when he assisted the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office in the identification and subsequent apprehension of a robbery suspect. Captain Darrin Naquin, Troop C Commander, stated, “Bruce Coleman is an outstanding employee that we can always count on. He is an asset to the Louisiana State Police and to every citizen in the State of Louisiana. He has always been genuinely concerned for the safety of all law enforcement officers.
