Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: September 26, 2009 Single Vehicle Crash Claims a Texas Man’s Life in Terrebonne Parish Schriever- A single vehicle crash in Terrebonne Parish claimed the life of a Texas man early this morning. The crash occurred on LA 24 North at Old Hwy 659 approximately ten minutes after midnight this morning. A 1997 Chevrolet pick up truck was northbound on LA 24N in a left curve at a high rate of speed. The vehicle ran off the roadway to the right, crossed over Old Hwy 659, and struck several signs as it went down an embankment. The vehicle overturned, struck a culvert, and came to rest upside down on the bank of a canal. The driver, Mitchell Byrd (W/M, 20, of Nederland, TX), was pronounced dead on the scene. The passenger, Robert Taylor of Baton Rouge, LA, was pulled out by bystanders. He was transported to Thibodaux Regional with minor injuries. Both occupants were wearing their seat belts. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor with blood alcohol results pending from the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. This crash occurred on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at approximately 12:10 AM. Tpr.
