Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: September 30, 2009 Train Strikes and Kills Pedestrian in St. James Parish St. James- Early this morning, a train struck and killed a pedestrian near Caze Street in St. James Parish. At approximately 6:00 AM, a Union Pacific train was traveling northbound approaching Caze Street. The train engineer, Tyrone Goodmond (B/M, 48, of Harvey, LA) activated the horn several times upon approach of the intersection. Shortly after activating the horn, he observed a female standing between the tracks with her back to the train. The train struck the pedestrian and the train traveled for approximately three quarters of a mile before coming to a stop. The female pedestrian, identified as Eva Jeanette Martinez-Perez (H/F, 42, of St. James) was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no charges filed in the crash. Tpr.
