Four Teens Die, One Teen Critical After Crashing Stolen Vehicle In Terrebonne Parish

Gibson- Shortly after 7:00 AM this morning, four teens were killed and one sustained critical injuries when the stolen vehicle they were in ran off of North Bayou Black Drive and struck a tree in western Terrebonne Parish.

A stolen 2005 Nissan Sentra, driven by Demetrius Trahan (B/M, 15, of Gibson, LA) was westbound on North Bayou Black Drive when he crossed the centerline in a right curve and ran off the roadway to the left. The Nissan traveled off the roadway approximately 89 feet and then struck a tree head-on and immediately came to rest. Speeding is suspected to be a factor in the crash.

There were five occupants in the vehicle. None of the occupants wore their seat belts during the crash and none of them were ejected. The driver and three of the four passengers were pronounced dead at the scene. The rear left passenger, Darius Stewart (B/M, 17, of Gibson, LA), was transported to Thibodaux Regional in critical condition. The three deceased passengers were: Donta Stewart (B/M, 18, of Gibson, LA), Joshua Trahan (B/M, 18, of Gibson, LA), and Dominic Hanzy (B/M, 16, of Gibson, LA).

The Nissan Sentra was reported stolen from Morgan City, LA on Friday, October 2, 2009. Alcohol/ drug-use is unknown with toxicology results pending from the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. Charges are pending further investigation. This crash occurred on Sunday, October 04, 2009 at approximately 7:15 AM near 6212 North Bayou Black Drive. Tpr. Christopher Mason is continuing his investigation.
