Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP C- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: June 2, 2009 Un-Buckled Dulac Passenger Killed After Vehicle Strikes Tree Dulac- Shortly after daybreak this morning, a crash on LA 57 in Dulac claimed one life and injured another after their vehicle struck a tree in southern Terrebonne Parish. Steven Duplantis (W/M, 25, of Houma) was driving a 2003 Pontiac Vibe southbound on LA 57 when it entered a left curve. The Pontiac Vibe went off the roadway to the right, rotated slightly counterclockwise, and struck a tree on the passenger side of the vehicle. This impact caused the front seat passenger, Hope Billiot Gregoire (W/F, 29, of Dulac, LA), to sustain critical injuries to the head. Duplantis sustained minor to moderate injuries. The driver and passenger were transported to Chabert Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance. Gregoire later died at the hospital. Neither, Duplantis or Gregoire, was wearing seat belts when the crash occurred. Alcohol/drugs are suspected; however, the results are pending from the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Duplantis has been charged with Vehicular Negligent Homicide, Improper Lane Use, No Seat Belt, and No Driver’s License on Person. This crash occurred on LA 57 north of Buquet Bridge on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at approximately 6:05 AM. S/T Murray Buquet is continuing his investigation.
