TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE
August 15, 2015
Lottie Man Dies After Head-on Crash with Acadian Ambulance

Livonia, LA At approximately 7:00 pm on August 14, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatality crash that occurred on LA 411 south of US 190 in Pointe Coupee Parish. The crash took the life of 51 year old Brett Bergeron of Lottie, LA.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Bergeron was traveling southbound on LA 411 in a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado. At the same time, 45 year old Peter Woods of Breaux Bridge, LA was traveling northbound on LA 411 in a 2013 Acadian Ambulance ground unit. For unknown reasons, Bergeron’s vehicle crossed the center line into the northbound lane of LA 411 and struck the Acadian Ambulance head-on.

Despite the fact that Bergeron was properly restrained, he suffered fatal injuries in the crash. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Pointe Coupee Parish Coroner’s Office. Woods and his passenger were also properly restrained and received minor injuries as a result of the crash. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash but a toxicology sample was taken from Bergeron and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Woods submitted to a chemical breath test and showed no detectable signs of impairment.

Louisiana State Troopers want to inform motorists that all occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
