Female Killed in Early Morning Crash on LA 1 in Lafourche Parish

Raceland, LA- Shortly before 4 AM this morning, Louisiana State Police Troop C investigated a single vehicle crash on LA 1 in Raceland, LA, where a 23 year old female was killed after her vehicle traveled off the road and struck a utility pole.

The investigation revealed that a 2003 Chevrolet Impala was traveling south on LA 1 just south of the St. Charles community in Lafourche Parish when it entered a left curve in the road. For unknown reasons, the driver failed to negotiate the curve and traveled off the road to the right. The Impala entered a ditch and traveled for a short distance before crossing a driveway. When the Impala hit the driveway it became airborne and began to rotate clockwise until it struck a utility pole on the driver’s side. The driver, Kacie Jarreau (W/F age 23) of Raceland, LA, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Jarreau was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash.

Alcohol use is not suspected at this time, but routine toxicology tests are pending. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers remind everyone to remain safe on the roads and never get behind the wheel of a vehicle if you have had any alcoholic beverages. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
