TROOP A-NEWS RELEASE
August 18, 2015
One Dead and Nine Injured in Three Vehicle Crash in East Feliciana Parish

Clinton, LA Shortly after 8:00 am on August 18, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a three vehicle fatality crash that occurred on LA 67(Plank Rd.) north of LA 959 in East Feliciana Parish. The crash took the life of 51 year old James McFadden III of Amite, LA.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 18 year old Michael Davidson of Slaughter, LA was traveling northbound on LA 67 in a 2000 Ford F-150. For unknown reasons, Davidson’s vehicle crossed the center line into the southbound lane. At the same time, 42 year old Shaletha Loyd of Clinton, LA was traveling southbound on LA 67 in a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe. Davidson’s vehicle sideswiped Loyd’s vehicle in the southbound lane. Davidson’s vehicle continued to travel northbound and struck McFadden’s 2000 Ford Ranger head-on in the southbound lane.

Although McFadden was properly restrained, he received fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the East Feliciana Parish Coroner’s Office. McFadden’s passenger was properly restrained and was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital with moderate to severe injuries. Loyd and the five occupants in her vehicle, ranging from age 5-35, were all properly restrained and transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital with moderate injuries. Davidson and his passenger were properly restrained and transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital with moderate injuries. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. A toxicology sample will be taken from all drivers and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

This crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.

Louisiana State Troopers want to inform motorists that all occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
