Unrestrained Woman Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash

Assumption Parish – Shortly after 5:00 p.m. this afternoon, Troopers with Troop C began investigating a single-vehicle fatality crash on LA 1 north of the LA 70 Spur in Paincourtville, LA. The crash took the life of 77-year-old Burnideen Philip of Belle Rose.

The preliminary investigation revealed Philip was traveling north on LA 1 in a 2013 Nissan Murano. For unknown reasons, Philip ran off of the roadway to the right and struck a tree. She was not wearing her seat belt and suffered critical injuries. Philip was transported to Prevost Memorial Hospital by Acadian Ambulance Service and succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival. She was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.

Drug and alcohol use is not suspected as a factor in the crash; however, standard toxicology tests are pending.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that while not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
