TROOP C NEWS RELEASE Head-On Collision Kills Houma Man in Lafourche Parish Golden Meadow – Shortly before 6:00 a.m. this morning, Troopers with Troop C began investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash on LA 1 just north of Leeville. The crash took the life of 31-year-old Alvaro Alvarado-Puentes. The preliminary investigation revealed Puentes was traveling north on LA 1 in a 2008 Ford Fusion. For unknown reasons, Puentes crossed the centerline after entering a right curve in the roadway. Puentes struck a southbound 2019 Volvo tractor-trailer that was being driven by 48-year-old Edwin Ryder III of El Cajon, CA. Puentes was properly restrained but suffered fatal injuries. Ryder was properly restrained and not injured in the crash. Impairment is unknown on the part of Puentes and a toxicology report is pending through the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Ryder submitted a breath sample which should no alcohol present. This crash is an active investigation and no further information is available at this time. Louisiana State Troopers would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists to always make good decisions while operating motor vehicles. Never drive while impaired, fatigued, or distracted. Always ensure every occupant is properly restrained, pay close attention to recent changes in child passenger seat laws, and follow all traffic laws.
