TROOP C NEWS RELEASE Unrestrained Napoleonville Man Dies in Rollover Crash Thibodaux – Shortly before 3:00 a.m. this morning, Troopers with Troop C began investigating a single-vehicle fatality crash on LA 1 just north of the St. John Bridge. The crash took the life of 25-year-old Devante Turner. The preliminary investigation revealed Turner was traveling north on LA 1 in a 2011 Nissan Altima. He entered a slight curve to the right when, for unknown reasons, his vehicle ran off of the roadway to the left. Turner’s vehicle entered a ditch, struck a drain culvert, and began to overturn. He was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected. Turner was pronounced deceased on scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is unknown as a factor in the crash; however, a standard toxicology report is pending through the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that while not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
