TROOP C NEWS RELEASE Traffic Stop Leads to Weapons, Narcotics, and Cash Seizure Houma – Shortly after 9:00 a.m. on August 12, 2019, a Trooper with Troop C observed a driver not wearing his seat belt while traveling on LA 24 South at LA 660. The stop would eventually lead to the arrest of 32-year-old Byron Nevis of Houma on multiple charges. The Trooper conducted a traffic stop on Nevis who was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado. Nevis exited his vehicle then returned to it and fled from the scene. Nevis then led Troopers in a pursuit on LA 24 North towards Thibodaux. During the pursuit, Nevis struck another vehicle causing minor damage and no injuries. Nevis traveled to LA 3185, then to LA 308 where he abandoned his vehicle and jumped into Bayou Lafourche. Agents with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries responded to the area with watercraft and were able to capture Nevis. During the investigation, Troopers found Nevis to be in possession of two firearms, 361 grams of Ecstacy, 165 grams of Heroin, 3.42 lbs. of Marijuana, 3 grams of Cocaine, 8 packages of edible THC, 2 containers of THC lip balm, and $39,177.00 in cash.
