| TROOP C NEWS RELEASE September 30, 2018 Two Unrestrained Donaldsonville Teenagers Involved in Fatal Assumption Parish Crash Belle Rose – Shortly after 12:00 a.m. this morning, Troopers from Troop C began investigating a single-vehicle fatality crash on LA 1 just south of LA 999. The crash took the life of a passenger in the vehicle, 16-year-old Tre’Sean Jackson of Donaldsonville. The preliminary investigation revealed 17-year-old Kayvon Harris of Donaldsonville was traveling north on LA 1 in a 1995 Chevrolet Silverado. Harris entered a right curve when, for reasons still under investigation, he lost control of his vehicle and ran off of the road to the left. Harris’s vehicle began to roll over and it came to rest on its roof as it struck a residence near the highway. Harris was not wearing his seat belt and he was ejected. He suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge by Acadian Ambulance Service. Jackson was the front seat passenger and he was not wearing his seat belt. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene by the Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is unknown as a factor in this crash. Harris submitted a blood sample for toxicology testing and the results are pending through the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that while not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
