| TROOP C NEWS RELEASE February 16, 2018 Motorcyclist Killed in Terrebonne Parish Crash Chacahoula – Shortly after 6:30 this morning, Troop C was notified of a two-vehicle fatality crash involving a motorcycle on LA 20 at US 90. The crash took the life of 20 year old Timothy Burns of Brantley, AL. The preliminary investigation revealed Burns was traveling south on LA 20 on a 2003 Yamaha motorcycle. Ross Leboeuf, 20 year old of Thibodaux, was traveling north on LA 20 in a 2015 Mercedes Sprinter van. Leboeuf reached the intersection with the entrance ramp to US 90 West and made a left turn towards the ramp. Burns was approaching the intersection at a high rate of speed and struck Leboeuf’s vehicle as he was turning. Despite wearing a DOT approved helmet, Burns suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. Leboeuf was wearing his seat belt and was not injured. Impairment is unknown on the part of Burns and a standard toxicology report is pending through the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. Leboeuf submitted a breath sample which showed no alcohol present. Troopers urge motorcyclists of all ages and experience levels to take extra precautions while riding and ensure that they are properly prepared and trained for a variety of riding conditions. The dangers of risky and erratic behaviors such as speeding often have tragic consequences. Through participation in certified training programs, riders are educated on safe riding practices such as being visible, dressing for safety, applying effective riding strategies, and knowing the capabilities and limitations of their motorcycle. Motorcyclists are taught how to apply these safety practices to not only avoid being involved in a crash but to greatly reduce the chance of injury should a crash occur.
