| TROOP C NEWS RELEASE December 7, 2017 Thibodaux Man Killed in St. John the Baptist Parish Crash Vacherie – Shortly after 3:00 pm this afternoon, Troop C was notified of a two-vehicle fatality crash on LA 3127 east of LA 3213. The crash took the life of 69 year old Louis Duet. The preliminary investigation revealed Duet was traveling west on LA 3127 in a 2014 Dodge Ram pick-up. For reasons still under investigation, Duet crossed the center line and struck an eastbound 2001 International 18 wheeler being driven by 27 year old Josue Moreno-Silva of Thibodaux. Duet was restrained at the time of the crash but suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased on scene by the St. John the Baptist Coroner’s Office. His wife and only passenger, 68 year old Sharon Duet, was restrained and suffered minor injuries. She was transported to University Medical Center in New Orleans by Acadian Ambulance Service. Moreno was restrained and was not injured. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash; however, a standard toxicology report is pending through the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office on the part of Duet. Moreno submitted a breath sample which showed no alcohol present. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
