| TROOP C NEWS RELEASE December 5, 2017 Destrehan Woman Killed in Lafourche Parish Crash Raceland – Shortly before 6:00 pm this evening, Troop C was notified of a single vehicle fatality crash on LA 308 near Peltier Drive. The crash took the life of 21 year old Kayla Blyden Brown of Destrahan, LA. The initial investigation showed Brown was traveling south on LA 308 just north of Peltier Drive in a 2006 Pontiac G6. For reasons still under investigation, Brown entered a right curve in the highway and failed to negotiate it. Her vehicle ran off of the right side of the road and struck a utility pole head-on, then struck a large pine tree. Brown was not wearing her seat belt and had to be extricated from the vehicle, but died shortly after from her injuries on scene. She was pronounced deceased by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is unknown as a factor in the crash; however, a standard toxicology report is pending through the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that while not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
