TROOP A NEWS RELEASE
January 8, 2015
Two Drivers Injured in Pointe Coupee Parish Head-on Crash

Ventress At approximately 11:00 am on January 8, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle serious injury crash that occurred on LA Hwy 415 north of LA Hwy 413 in Pointe Coupee Parish. The head-on crash resulted in serious injuries to one driver and moderate injuries to another.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 34 year old New Roads, LA resident Dana L. Coleman was driving a 2004 Honda Accord northbound on LA Hwy 415. At the same time 18 year old Tyler J. Nelson of Ventress was driving a 2010 Buick Enclave southbound on LA Hwy 415. As Coleman was traveling northbound her Accord left the roadway to the right for unknown reasons. Coleman overcorrected causing her vehicle to enter into the southbound lane of travel. Upon doing so the Honda struck the Buick head-on.

Despite the fact that she was properly restrained Coleman was transported from the scene to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center (OLOL) in Baton Rouge with serious injuries. Nelson was unrestrained at the time of the crash. He was also transported from the scene to OLOL with moderate injuries. Impairment is unknown at this time, and toxicology samples were taken from both drivers and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Charges are pending for Coleman.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seat belt use. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a motor vehicle crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up.
