| TROOP C NEWS RELEASE October 30, 2017 Bicyclist Killed in Terrebonne Parish Crash Chauvin – On October 29, 2017 shortly after 10 pm, Troop C was notified of a single vehicle fatality crash involving a bicyclist on LA 58 near LA 56. The crash took the life of 59 year old Steven Angelle of Montegut, LA. The preliminary investigation revealed Angelle was traveling west on LA 58 inside the westbound lane. At the same time, 37 year old Martha Worley of Chauvin, LA was also traveling west in the westbound lane of LA 58 in a 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe. Worley approached Angelle from behind and struck him with the front of her vehicle. Angelle sustained fatal injuries and he was pronounced deceased on scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. Worley was not injured in the crash and was wearing her seat belt. At the time of the crash, Angelle was not wearing a helmet and it is unknown if he had the required white light on the front of his bicycle and red light in the rear. Impairment on the part of Angelle is unknown; however, standard toxicology tests are pending. Worley provided a breath sample which showed no alcohol present. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind bicyclists to never assume that a motorist can see you. Simple precautions such as wearing an approved bicycle helmet, reflective materials, and avoiding distractions are key to preventing crashes and avoiding injuries. Louisiana law requires bicyclists to remain as close to the right of side of the roadway as possible and obey all traffic laws.
